This course provides detailed information required for the design of IMS Full Function databases and Data Entry databases (DEDBs). It covers the definition of IMS Control Blocks (DBD & PSB), & the characteristics of HISAM, HDAM & HIDAM, PHDAM, and PHIDAM (HALDB) organizations. The physical structure of these database types is examined in detail, & the reasons for choosing a particular organization to match an application’s needs. In addition, GSAM & Secondary Indexes are discussed, & the physical implementation of logical relationships, uni-directional & bi-directional (physical & virtual). Other topics are database housekeeping, the relevance of DBRC, database monitoring for performance & error recovery

This advanced, in-depth course, introduces, and explains the features and functionality of IBM's IMS Fast Path. The course covers the processing of Fast Path resources in IMS/TM and IMS/DB environments and the design and implementation of both EMH environments and Fast Path databases. It also explains the implementation of High-Speed Sequential Processing, the DEDB Virtual Storage Option, database and system recovery and data sharing for Fast Path DEDBs.
