This course explains the new functionality and enhancements available with both CICS TS V4 and V5. The class will provide attendees with the ability to enable the exploitation of new features such as Event Processing; Atom feeds; Service Component Architecture support, CICS Bundles; Resource Signatures; CICS Explorer and Transaction Routing over TCP/IP. The Architectural enhancements supported by CICS TS V5 will also be introduced and discussed. Many of the enhancements at CICS TS V5 extend and expand functionality introduced at CICS TS V4
Attendees should be experienced CICS personnel
At least 1-year experience of CICS application or systems programming recommended. In addition exposure to HTML, SOAP/XML in any environment would be an advantage
This course includes topics relevant to CICS TS 5. It is designed to take Systems Programmers through the main components of CICS to help them understand how various parameters, design concepts, CICS facilities, operating systems facilities & network facilities that affect the performance of CICS systems. Students are encouraged to bring statistics and resource definitions from their own systems to make the class more useful
General CICS systems programming experience
"Instructor was excellent and very experienced "
This course is designed to provide the attendee with the skills necessary to be able to debug problems in a CICS TS environment. The student will learn how to read both transaction and system dumps. Transaction dumps are used to demonstrate how to resolve application type problems such as program checks or cancellations caused by the program not handling the ABEND condition. System dumps are used to demonstrate how to resolve CICS system problems using the IBM Interactive Problem Control System (IPCS). The attendee will receive information on how to debug system problems such as short on storage (SOS) conditions and storage violations. In particular the attendee will receive information on how to resolve loops and wait conditions that affect the CICS TS system. The attendee will receive information regarding what things need to be analyzed when you have problems with web services and other subsystems such DB2 and MQ
Attendees should have CICS programming experience. System programming experience is helpful but not required
